Gel Candle Equipment

Equipment and Supplies Needed

·        Candle gel can be melted directly on top of the stove. I use a medium size Teflon coated metal pot. This makes for easy cleanup since when the leftover gel cools in the pan, you can easily peel it off. NO NEED to discard the leftover gel, it can be re-melted and used for another candle.

·        Candy thermometer that reads up to about 300 degrees. You must watch the temperature of the gel very closely. It is highly flammable. NEVER heat gel to over 220 degrees.

·        Metal utensils for stirring. Spoons, etc. Do not use wooden spoons, they will add bubbles to the gel.

·        Pot holders to handle hot pans etc.

·        Dyes. I use liquid dyes in my gel candles. (Wax based dyes will cloud your gel and can make an otherwise beautiful candle look bad). Use very little dye at first (Use a toothpick to stir it in the gel). Sometimes even a full drop can be too much dye for one candle.

·        Scents. I use only fragrances that have been approved for gel candles. Make sure they have a flashpoint of between 170 degrees and 220 degrees F.

·        Containers. There are a large variety of containers you can use.  I use only dishwasher safe containers, ( glass, ceramic, and metal ). If the glass is too thin, it could crack when exposed to heat.

·        Candle wick. You must choose the right wick for the container you are using. I use zinc-cored wick that have a 7/16” t-tab at the base.
